The State of the Internet 2023

On 9 March 2023, Waag Futurelab organised the fifth annual State of the Internet. This year’s lecture was led by writer, artist, journalist and technologist James Bridle. Bridle explores how new technological models can decentralise power.

In the lecture ‘Other Intelligences’ Bridle examined the state of AI, where it’s headed, and how we might think otherwise about both ‘artificial’ intelligence, and the many other forms of intelligence that exist in the world.

The lecture can be watched here.

The design was inspired by the different kinds of animal and plant intelligence that Bridle mentions in their book ‘Ways of Being’. Below some sketches based in part on the networking capabilities of slime mold.
